Spacemaker was an Oslo-based AI and PropTech company founded in 2016 by Carl Christensen and Håvard Haukeland that built the world's first AI-powered urban design and site analysis platform — enabling architects, urban planners, and real estate developers to use generative AI and advanced simulation to instantly explore thousands of building placement, massing, and configuration options for a given site, evaluating each option against planning regulations, solar access, wind conditions, noise levels, and view quality simultaneously, to identify optimal designs in hours rather than the weeks or months of traditional iterative design processes. Its platform fundamentally changed the economics and creativity of early-stage architectural decision-making, giving design teams AI-generated insights that improve project quality and reduce costly design mistakes before construction begins. Acquired by Autodesk in October 2020 for $240 million and rebranded as Autodesk Forma, Spacemaker's technology is now being integrated into Autodesk's global AEC design platform as the AI intelligence layer for sustainable urban development.
